How long does it take to get a TB test result in Kenya?

The answer to this depends on the way the TB test is carried out. If you do a chest x-ray, you’ll get your result the same day- usually within 6 hours. But if you do a sputum test, it takes 8 weeks for the result to come out.

Pregnant women are advised to wait till after they have put to bed before they go for TB test as x-ray testing is not recommendable for pregnant women. Alternatively, they can opt for a sputum test if they do not want to wait.

Sometimes, chest x-ray may be inconclusive, and the applicant will be required to do sputum test instead. This is why it is recommendable to book an appointment at least 10 weeks before your visa application interview date in case your initial TB test comes out inconclusive and you have to do another test.

    1. Thanks for the very informative information there. By the way when coming for the TB test, can I come along with my 9 month old Daughter because I do not have a Nanny please.

      1. Hi Jacqueline,
You are welcome. Thank you for your feedback!

I believe you should be able to bring your baby. When I went for my test, I saw people with their babies. However, it won’t be easy waiting your turn, going through the capturing process and the actual test process with your baby. I suggest you ask a relative you trust, if you have any, to help you baby sit for some hours if possible.

But please, call the hospital to know their policy on bringing babies just in case they don’t allow that.

        Good luck!
