How do I get a TB test for UK visa in India?
Below are steps on how to get your TB certificate for UK visa application.
- Book an appointment with a clinic authorised by the UK government to issue tuberculosis test certificate for UK visa application. If you get a certificate from another clinic, it will not be accepted.
- On the scheduled appointment date, go to the clinic with the required documents and test fees.
- When you get to the clinic, you will be given a form to fill with your name, address and the type of visa you want to apply for, after which you will be asked to pay and join the queue (if there are other applicants that came ahead of you).
- When it’s your turn, you’ll be called to take the test which is oftentimes a chest x-ray- except you are under 11 years.
- The physician will review your results. If you are TB free, the clinic will give you your TB certificate. If you have TB, you will not be issued a certificate. You will be required to receive treatment.

How to book Tuberculosis test for UK Visa in India
To schedule an appointment for your TB test, contact the clinic you want to use. You could call or send an email. When you contact the clinic/ hospital, make it clear that you need the test for your UK visa application, and ask them what their fee for the test is as well as the documents you need to bring along when coming to the clinic for the test.
Documents required for TB test
These are the standard documents required.
- Original valid ID with photo, such as passport, national ID card or Refugee Asylum seeker card (if applicable)
- If you had TB or any lung disease, share past screening details, medical notes and X-ray results, if available
- 2 recent passport-sized photographs
- The test fee
Some clinics may need documents not captured in the list above. That’s why I earlier advised that when you contact the clinic to book your test, you ask for the documents required.

Is TB certificate mandatory for UK visa?
Yes. If you are an Indian resident visiting the UK for more than 6 months, you will need to do a TB test- except you fall under the category of people exempted from doing a TB test when traveling from countries listed by the UK government to do the test.
How is TB test done in India for UK visa?
The common way UK TB test is done is by x-ray. But if you are pregnant, you may be advised to do a sputum test instead. For children less than 11 years old, their guardian/ parent will be asked to fill a health questionnaire.
Can a TB cured person travel to UK?
Yes, you can. What matters is that the result of your TB test is negative. If it is, you will be given a TB certificate which you can use for your visa application.
