Step 1: Gather the required documents

Before you start your application, ensure you have all the documents needed for processing your visa. If you start your application without having the complete required documents, your application could be delayed or denied. 

Documents required for Canada Tourist visa from Nigeria

1. Valid passport with at least one blank page other than the last page. You will need to attach a photocopy of the information page of your passport that contains your passport number, issuance and expiry date, biodata, and photo when making your visa application. Makе surе your passport has at least six months of validity beyond the expiration of your visa.
2. Proof of travel history (if any). This could be:
   – Previous passports and visas used within the last 10 years to travel out of Nigeria.
   – Entry and exit stamps
3. Travel itinerary. This could include any of the following:
   – Your return flight ticket
   – Accommodation reservation

Step 2: Fill out the visa application form

There are three ways to apply for a visa to Canada from Nigeria. You can apply online, by mail, or in person. Whatever option you choose, the steps are the same, but the instructions for each step could be slightly different. So, please as you read the next steps take note of this. 

Applying online

To apply online:

• Sign in to the IRCC portal using your email and password. If you don’t have an IRCC account yet, request for an invitation code then sign up for an account using the invite code. 
• After signing in to your IRCC account, complete the online form, providing accurate information about your trip, personal details, and the purpose of your visit. Follow the instructions on the website to avoid any mistakes.
• Upload your documents.

Applying in-person

If you choose to apply in person:

• Using a laser printer, print the completed form with barcoded sheets on white, bond quality, non-glossy paper. The 2D barcode has to be printed clearly on high-quality paper.
• Complete the supporting documents for your visa application as well. Check the list of documents earlier outlined under step 1 or visit the IRCC website to check for the required documents. 

Step 3: Book an appointment

After completing your application, you may need to provide your fingerprints and photo (biometric information). If you apply online and you need to provide your biometric information, after submitting your e-application, you’ll get a Biometric Instruction Letter (BIL). 

To provide your biometrics, book an appointment with VFS Global. VSF Global is the only visa application centre (VAC) authorized by the Canadian government in Nigeria, so that’s the only place you should go for your biometrics. At the time of publishing this article, there are only two VSF Global centres in Nigeria– one in Abuja and the other in Lagos. 

N.B.: If you are applying as a family or group, you have to book your appointments individually.

Step 4: Pay the required fees

At this stage, you are to pay your visa processing fees and biometrics fee (if applicable). If you are applying in person, you can pay at the VAC during your appointment. But if you are applying online, you have to pay online using a valid card.

Step 5: Go to the VAC

If you choose to apply in person, take your completed visa application form, passport, and supporting documents while going for your biometrics appointment.	Visit the VAC for your scheduled biometrics appointment. Once this is done, you’ll receive a confirmation email. Don’t go with your passport. You have to wait to receive a message from the IRCC asking for your passport before you do.

Step 7: Collect your passport

You can go to the VAC to collect your passport and visa or pay for the VAC to dispatch them to you. To collect your visa, go with the following:

• A copy of the stamped biodata page of your passport
• The original VAC Services Receipt or the printout of the E-ICR
• Government ID

If you want someone to collect your visa for you, the person has to come with the following:

• The signed Visa Application Centre (VAC) services consent form including the delegate’s name and his/ her relationship to you.
